Snowshoe tour Breithorn (level 2)

The Breithorn with its five peaks is an imposing mountain when seen from Zermatt. It's hard to imagine that we can climb to the west summit on snowshoes on its south side! To make your experience as stress-free as possible, we all arrive the evening before and spend the night in the hotel in Zermatt. The next day we take the mountain railway to the Klein Matterhorn station. From there, we climb the Breithorn - the easiest four-thousand-metre peak in the Alps - together in a small group on its normal route. Breathtaking views of the Matterhorn included.

Program

Day 1

Welcome by the mountain guide and dinner together at the hotel. Orientation about the upcoming tour and equipment check.

Day 2

On the second day we take the railway to Klein Matterhorn. Now we traverse the Breithorn plateau, a glaciated plateau of impressive dimensions. On the steep slope to the summit, the crampon and ice axe skills learnt on the first day are put to good use. The ascent to the highest point is worthwhile in every respect. In addition to the great feeling of standing on a 4,000 metre peak under your own steam, we are treated to a tremendous panoramic view of the western Valais 4,000 metre peaks, the Mont Blanc region, the Gran Paradiso chain with the Aosta Valley, the Po Valley and even the distant Bernina Group and the Bernese Alps. The descent takes us to the Klein Matterhorn station, where the railway takes us back to Zermatt. (Distance: 5.5 km. Walking time: 3-4 h. Ascent/descent: 570 hm / 570 hm)
